Painter of genre, market and beach scenes, portraits, orientalist subjects and allegories; draughtsman, watercolourist, painter of gouaches and ceramic artist. Friedrich Stahl was born in Munich on December 27, 1863 and died in Rome in 1949. He was a student of Wilhelm Diez at the Munich Academy. He was active in Berlin (1888–1898), England (1898), Florence (1904-1913), Munich (1914) and, until his death, in Rome. He started his career as a painter of impressionist genre scenes. Stahl was co-founder of the "Vereinigung der XI" in Munich. He made illustrations for, among others, "Fliegende Blätter", and also ventured into ceramics.
