Artist Overview
At-a-glance artist context.
Painter of mythological subjects, genre scenes, portraits and landscapes. Albert Cresswell was a pupil of Gustave Boulanger, Jules Lefebvre and Luc Olivier Merson. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1880 to 1929, receiving several awards, including an honourable mention in 1892 and a third-place medal in 1907. This painting may have been made for the Paris Salon of 1905, which Cresswell was ultimately unable to participate in, presumably due to illness. It has been exhibited in 1995 in Ostend, Belgium, at the Fine Arts Museum for the exhibition "5 jaar Vrienden".
